Barbara Kohnen Adriance, MPP, Team leader
Barbara leads the LiveWell project through her company, The Malden Collective. She has been working with APD and many committed stakeholders to develop the program since 2015. She is committed to building healthy and sustainable communities and has long experience building organizations and programs that seek to transform individuals and organizations in the US and Latin America.
Andy Switky, Advisor
Mr. Switky is the founder of Code Name Collective, a consultancy focused on the design and build of complex systems, particularly in healthcare and the social determinants of health. A 16-year veteran of IDEO before starting Code Name, Andy leverages design and design thinking to help address the needs of poor and vulnerable populations. Recent projects have been focused on housing assistance through a long-running collaboration with the Santa Clara County Housing Authority, and workforce development as co-chair of NOVA, the workforce board for Silicon Valley.
Andy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and has taught core curriculum in the School of Engineering at Stanford for ten years. He is the holder of 20 patents and 17 patents pending. He is an avid artisan cheesemaker, long-distance cyclist, and musician who performs with local theater companies.
Ann McQueen, Ph.D., Original Sponsor + Advisor
Ann is the Executive Director for TimeSlips, which brings meaning to late life through creative engagement. She previously served as the Research and Policy Integration Manager for the Aging and People with Disabilities (APD) Program within the Oregon Department of Human Services. Prior to her current job, she worked as the administrator of the Safety, Oversight, and Quality (licensing) Unit, as a policy analyst, as a college faculty member, in local government programs for older adults, and as an administrator and consultant in various assisted living/residential care/memory care communities. She is especially interested in the experiences of people living with dementia and helping to create a world that affords them the human connection and companionship that all human beings deserve. Ann has a B.F.A. in musical theater, an MS in Communication Studies, and a Ph.D. in Gerontology. She is grateful to have a career that allows her to work on behalf of older adults and people with disabilities in a state that honors the choice, independence, dignity, and safety of all. Ann is helped in her work at APD on LiveWell by Kim Hector and Cody Kuenzi.
Cecilia Owsley, BSN, RN
Senior Living COO
Cecilia Owsley, Guardian Angel Homes COO, is passionate about the importance of leadership within long-term and residential care. As an early LiveWell adopter, Cecilia is convinced of its impact on the quality of care and staff retention at Guardian Angel Homes. In addition to her responsibilities as COO, Cecilia worked with our team to spearhead the development of LiveWell’s leadership development training, LeadWell. Asked what it takes to be an effective leader in long-term care, she observed, “Every day you’ve got to drink a full cup of vulnerability followed by a shot of humility.”
Judy Ha
Judy provides business, financial, and contracting coordination for LiveWell initiatives. Judy brings business and finance leadership experience gained in varied industries for over 25 years. Her most recent work has been in the healthcare sector including supporting the setup and expansion of LiveWell.
Marcus Ingle, Senior Consultant
Marcus is a senior advisor and coach for LiveWell. He is a retired Professor of Public Administration at Portland State University (PSU) where he specialized in team development, organizational innovation, and the management of complex and dynamic social challenges domestically and globally. While at PSU, Marcus and his team in the Center for Public Service assisted The Malden Collective to develop the LiveWell scale-up strategy. In 2019, he co-authored New Public Leadership: Making a Difference from Where We Sit with D. Morgan and C. Shinn. Marcus holds a Ph.D. in Social Science from the Maxwell School of Public Affairs at Syracuse University. In retirement, he is enjoying quality time with family, cruising the seven seas, and exploring Oregon’s awesome natural resources with a new puppy.
Steven Mitchell, MA, Creative Director + designer
Principal and Creative Director of Steven Mitchell Design, Steven has created branding and marketing for numerous clients within healthcare, including CareOregon, Releasing Time to Care, Legacy Meridian Park, and LiveWell. He is passionate about working with organizations that focus on the well-being of others, especially non-profits whose mission includes human flourishing. With more than 20 years of experience as a creative problem-solver, Steve excels at helping clients tackle complex communications needs.
Whitney M Beck, RDN LD CD
Whitney's true passion in life is serving the under served. As Director of Program Development for Guardian Angel Homes, an Assisted Living facility specializing in Memory Care with four facilities throughout Idaho, Washington, and Oregon, Whitney enjoys delving into the complexities of leadership development and organizational psychology as well as continually exploring the nuanced intricacies of senior care. Whitney volunteers and serves on multiple community boards as a way to give back and advocate for some of the most vulnerable populations. Whitney graduated from the University of Idaho in 2009 with her degree in Exercise Science and Health. On her never-ending quest for knowledge about inner workings of the human body and mind, she graduated from the University of Idaho again in 2015 with dual degrees in Dietetics and Psychology. In her spare time, Whitney enjoys spending time with her husband and three children, trying new recipes, gardening, learning how to preserve food, reading, and DIYing her house.
