Next BIG Step: the LiveWell Innovation Hub
Our team spent much of 2022 immersed in the question: How might we create an Innovation Hub to bring new ideas and technologies to providers in Oregon – and beyond?
Team Innovation Lead, Andy Switky, an expert in Human Centered Design and lecturer at Stanford University, organized a year-long design process for the LiveWell team to explore the questions:
How might we use new tools, technologies, or methods to improve resident experience?
How might we better implement and evolve regulations?
How might we increase staff retention and job satisfaction?
What best practices reduce costs to strengthen the bottom line?
We looked at these questions from a Design Thinking perspective - what is desirable, viable, and feasible - and interviewed many people from all parts of long-term care. We learned what staff, residents, owners, operators, regulators, and other stakeholders need to transform long-term care. As we balance the needs of a diverse group of stakeholders and our mandate to improve quality, we are now considering creating a new space for emerging technologies and new operating models, such as employee ownership.
While it’s early days, we are excited to consider new ways to improve the quality of life for residents and staff and to create sustainable businesses for owners. Stay tuned as we start bringing these ideas to life over the next 18 months!
OUR NEXT TRAINING COHORT, STARTING 1/25/23, CAN HELP REDUCE COSTS AND INCREASE STAFF MORALE.
Why should you join our Winter ‘23 cohort and do LiveWell?
In addition to complying with quality assurance standards, LiveWell helps retain staff and build community. Care communities that do LiveWell have a 60% decrease in staff turnover. LiveWell also improves the quality of life for staff and residents. Residents have fewer falls and fewer medication errors, and staff experience fewer workplace injuries.
LiveWell communities also reduce their costs: Reduced falls and increased staff retention help communities save an average of $135,900 annually.
